Role in the project

KPPL will play a key role in WP3, Design of prototypes for drinking water treatment: Design of a solar photovoltaic powered combined adsorption filtration and UV-C LED (AFU) Drinking Water Purification unit.


Mr. K. Vijaya Kumar Gupta

Mr Gupta obtained his B.Sc. (Phy, Maths) at Mumbai University in 1974 and a B.E. (Electronics) in 1997 – IISc Bangalore, Gold Medallist. He also holds a Diploma in Industrial Management / Financial Management (1978) and carried out project work at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research and Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) & Tata R&D on solid state devices. He spent 3 years as a scientist working on solar cells/displays for a DST project at Central Electronics Ltd (CEL) in Delhi before launching into his 30+ years corporate / finance/project management career. Mr Gupta produced the first LED in 1977 at ECE IISc lab, developed & produced LEDs-light emitting diodes commercially for the first time in India and KPPL is currently meeting the requirements of the whole of India telecom industry as sole approved source. He developed and produced capless bulbs for Maruti Honda / Japanese LCVs for the first time in India, produced digit-LED displays for the first time in India. Mr Gupta is also the founder Director of the 1st water theme park in South India which was conceived, designed & implemented entirely with in-house resources. He also produced India’s first power LEDs and single LED based solar lanterns and solar street & home lighting. Mr Gupta is also the Managing Director of LEDchip Indus Ltd P, a 2017 established ‘Start-up India’ qualified spinoff from the Kwality Lighting Group which is an ultra-modern fully automatic LED plant.
